Ride Marshals on the BP MS 150
-
The BP MS150 Ride Marshal program began with the 1988 ride and is the most comprehensive in the country.
-
Over the last 2 years, the Ride Marshal program has been updated and now has more extensive requirements for those that wish to volunteer for the program.
-
Ride Marshals primary responsibilities are to assist with safety along the route through verbal cues, assistance with traffic flow, minor bike assistance and to “lead by example” with proper safe cycling techniques.
-
BP MS150 Ride Marshals are required to have completed at least two MS150 rides. Many have done the Houston-Austin ride over 5 times.
-
Required to take a hands-on, three hour course on cycling safety and be CPR/ First Aid certified.
-
Required to participate in a minimum of two BP MS150 recommended rides as an official Ride Marshal.
-
They are vital to traffic flow at the start of rides, at breakpoints along the route and in the case of an accident.
-
All Ride Marshals are registered riders for the BP MS150 and must raise the same $400 minimum as any rider.
-
Many Ride Marshals are safety coordinators for their personal teams.
